Day 1 — Arrive in Mahabalipuram
A roughly 1 to 1.5 hour drive from Chennai airport directly to Mahabalipuram, with the rest of the day free to rest after travelling. In the evening, an easy first outing to the beach a short walk from most hotels, with the Shore Temple visible in silhouette against the sunset from the right vantage point — a genuinely striking first glimpse of the monument before visiting it properly the next day, and a good introduction to the town's small, easy-to-navigate scale. Day 2 — Shore Temple & the Rock-Cut Monuments
