April marks a clear shift: the plains of Rajasthan, Delhi and Agra move firmly into hot-season territory, with daytime highs regularly passing 35°C by the middle of the month. It's still possible to visit — with an early-morning-and-evening sightseeing rhythm and plenty of shade breaks — but this is no longer the comfortable, easygoing season of January and February. Most travellers with flexible dates start shifting their attention northward and upward instead.

Himachal's hill stations, Darjeeling and Sikkim are in full spring bloom, with apple and rhododendron blossoms and comfortable daytime temperatures that make for genuinely pleasant hiking and sightseeing weather. Toward the very end of the month, Leh and Ladakh's high mountain passes typically begin to reopen after the winter closure, opening up the very start of that region's short but spectacular season — though early arrivals should always confirm current road conditions, since exact reopening dates shift year to year with the snowmelt.
