What January Is Like
January is the coldest month of the year across North India, and also one of the most reliably beautiful. Rajasthan, Delhi and Agra see chilly mornings that can dip close to freezing in the desert, warming into pleasant, sunny afternoons ideal for full days of sightseeing. It's peak season for exactly this reason — the Taj Mahal, Amber Fort and the forts of Jaipur are all at their most photogenic under clear winter light, without the haze that builds later in spring.
Further south, January is close to ideal too: Kerala and Tamil Nadu sit in the dry, warm stretch of their own calendar, with none of the humidity that arrives later in the year. It's also a good month for wildlife — Ranthambore, Sariska and Bandhavgarh are open and comfortable, though sightings tend to improve as the dry season progresses into spring. The one region to watch is Delhi specifically, where early-morning fog and lingering winter smog can occasionally disrupt flight schedules and morning sightseeing plans.
