The Mughal emperors who ruled India centuries ago came to Kashmir specifically to escape the summer heat elsewhere, and built entire terraced gardens here in its honour — the same gardens you'll walk through on this trip. The centrepiece is a stay aboard a traditional houseboat on Dal Lake, a genuinely unique way to sleep with the Himalayas visible from your own private deck, paired with a day trip up into Gulmarg's alpine meadows for a landscape that feels more like the Alps than anywhere else in India.
Day 1 — Arrive & Board Your Houseboat
Private transfer from Srinagar airport directly to Dal Lake, where a shikara — Kashmir's traditional slim wooden boat, often cushioned and canopied — carries you and your luggage out to your houseboat, since the boats themselves are moored on the water rather than reachable by road. Take the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world, up toward Apharwat Peak for panoramic Himalayan views, snow-capped even in summer at the higher station, with the option of continuing to the second stage for views deep into the surrounding mountain ranges. Day 4 — A Full Day on Dal Lake
A morning shikara ride to the floating vegetable market, active only in the very early hours, where farmers sell produce grown on Dal Lake's own floating gardens directly from boat to boat — a genuinely unusual sight most visitors never see given how early it starts, often before sunrise. Later, a private shikara excursion around the lake's quieter channels, including the floating post office and small lakeside shrines rarely visited by tourists staying only a night or two. Day 5 — Departure
A final unhurried morning on your houseboat, with time for one last shikara ride or breakfast on the private deck before a shikara transfer back to shore and a private car to Srinagar airport for departure.
